Who We Are

Let me start by telling you a little about myself. My name is Jason Perez and I began my love for photography as a young student in middle school. During one of our shop classes, we were learning to take still photos in black and white. We would place objects on a piece of film paper and the picture would be taken. The background would be black and the objects would appear white.

We then learned the process of developing film, the old fashion way, in a darkroom with chemicals. A few years later my interested in taking photographs grew and I bought myself a 35mm camera. I started by taking pictures of friends and family members and progressed to things around me. Nature has always intrigued me and I have always felt a passion to photograph it.

My love for photography continued to grow throughout high school. During my junior year, I was asked to assist in taking photos for the school year book. I enjoyed it very much, although, there were people who wished not to be photographed. I was still very shy at this time in my life and took what I could, my options we almost unlimited. I was bringing my camera everywhere, taking pictures of classmates doing the silliest of things. I enjoyed capturing people in their element. It was rare for me to ask people to pose for a picture at this point. For me, it was like capturing them in their most real moment. Then an unfortunate turn of events, someone had stolen my personal camera from my school bag, thus temporarily ending my ever need to photograph things.

As the years went on, I had not had a camera in a while and I met the women of my dreams, my now wife and there came a time when we were given a camera as a present. My passion was reignited. We would travel throughout the state of New Jersey taking pictures of where we were and what we saw, with trips to New Hope, Pennsylvania, Cape May beaches and anything in-between.

Almost a year later, my wife gave birth to our son, also named Jason. And of course, as any parent would, I was taking so many pictures of our son throughout his young life. At one point we had purchased a dual video/still camera. We continued to take trips to all sorts of places within the wonderful state of New Jersey. In October of 2008, we had taken on the lighthouse challenge.

If you are not familiar, it is simply a challenge for lighthouse lovers to visit all of New Jersey's lighthouses in one day. Most people take their time and finish in two, which is what we did. We took wonderful shots of the different lighthouses All along the coast from Sandy Hook to Cape May to Paulsboro, New Jersey. Somewhere along the way, this camera was either stolen or misplaced and never found. By the looks of things, you would think I would be discouraged from ever wanting to own a camera again.

Fear not, in April 2012, I purchased another camera. A much better camera than I ever owned before. I would take this camera everywhere I would go, except when I was working. And then sometimes I would take it to work. It was at this point that I decided I wanted to become a professional photographer. So, I spoke to a close friend of mine and he has helped me jump start a business. He has very good business sense and has done his own photography in the past. It has been almost a year since I began this new venture and even though I have not had a large amount of clients, I still enjoy taking photographs of places and people.

Well, that pretty much sums up the beginning to my start in photography and I hope you enjoyed reading. I hope that one day I can capture your memories for you.
